Essential Preparations Before Your First Meeting with Your Dog

Essential Preparations Before Your First Meeting with Your Dog

Hello, this is Kim's Pups, Korea's premier breeder of teacup puppies!

Preparing for your first meeting with your new dog is an exciting and eagerly anticipated moment.

At Kim’s Pups, we share this special moment with many families who are adopting a dog, and we have compiled a list of essential items to help ensure your new furry friend adjusts comfortably and safely to their new home.

Let’s go through the checklist to make sure you’re fully prepared for a perfect first meeting with your dog!

Basic Supplies

1. Carrier:

To ensure safe and comfortable transportation for your dog, we recommend a durable carrier with a firm bottom.

For this reason, Kim’s Pups provides a hard kennel to families adopting a dog.

This space will become a resting place and a personal area for your dog.

2. Playpen:

Essential for helping your dog adjust and socialize.

A playpen provides a comfortable, safe space for your dog to rest and is also useful for indoor house training.

Visitors to Kim’s Pups might have noticed that our playpen serves as both a play and training area for the dogs.

3. Food and Water Bowls:

We recommend stainless steel or ceramic bowls, but you can choose according to your preference.

Additionally, it's best to start with the food your dog is already eating.

Begin with the food provided or recommended by the place where you initially adopted the dog, and gradually transition to new food.

When switching to a new food, select one that matches your dog’s age and size.

4. Leash:

Choose a leash that is appropriate for your dog’s size.

Even if you’re not yet going for walks, a leash is important for indoor training and helps create a positive association with it when used during meal times.

Hygiene Supplies - Grooming Tools

1. Puppy Pads:

Essential for house training and providing a designated bathroom area for your dog.

2. Toothbrush and Toothpaste:

Regular brushing helps maintain your dog's dental health and establishes good oral hygiene habits.

3. Brushes:

Various types of brushes are needed to manage your dog’s coat and prevent matting, including slicker brushes, face brushes, and regular combs.

4. Bathing Supplies:

Prepare dog-specific shampoo along with combs and brushes.

These are necessary to keep your dog’s skin and coat clean and healthy.

If you’re unsure which shampoo to choose, feel free to contact Kim’s Pups!

Our experts can recommend the best shampoo based on your dog’s breed and coat type.

5. Nail Clippers:

Regular nail trimming is important to prevent discomfort and potential health issues.

Long nails can cause walking difficulties, lead to abnormal posture, and put stress on joints and bones.

They can also break easily, causing pain or injuries. Proper nail care helps avoid these problems.

6. Ear Cleaner and Ear Forceps:

Essential for maintaining ear hygiene.

Regular ear cleaning helps prevent and manage infections and inflammation.

Additional Supplies

1. Baby Gate (Safety Gate):

It's important to set up gates to block off dangerous areas or spaces where your dog shouldn’t go.

Introducing these barriers early on helps your dog understand boundaries more effectively than training alone later.

Additionally, check and secure doors and windows to prevent your dog from unexpectedly running outside.

2. Sturdy, Lidded Trash Can:

Curious dogs may explore trash cans and try to ingest harmful items.

To prevent this, use a strong trash can with a secure lid to keep your dog safe.

3. Dog Registration Documents:

In some areas, registering your dog is required.

Prepare any necessary documents to ensure a smooth registration process.

At Kim’s Pups, we also assist with preparing any required paperwork, so feel free to reach out if you need help!

4. First Aid Kit:

Keep a first aid kit with items like wound ointment and a thermometer on hand for minor emergencies.

This kit will help you respond quickly to small injuries or health issues.

Depending on your dog's unique needs and personality, you could also need supplementary supplies.

Today's list includes the necessities that are usually advised for getting ready.

Kim’s Pups is here to help you every step of the way so that you may continue to enjoy welcome your new family member.

Thank you!
