Chihuahua: The Napoleon of the Dog World

Chihuahua: The Napoleon of the Dog World

Hello, this is Kim's Pups, Korea's premier breeder of teacup puppies!

With its round, lively eyes and perked-up ears, the Chihuahua is a small dog among small dogs.

When you think of Chihuahuas, what image comes to mind?

Despite their tiny, adorable size, these little dogs possess great courage and are loved by many.

At Kim’s Pups, we frequently have visitors looking for these brave little cuties. People who have owned Chihuahuas often find themselves drawn back to the breed.

Named after a region in Mexico, Chihuahuas have firmly established themselves as a unique breed.

Revered in ancient Aztec civilization, Chihuahuas boast a history spanning over 2,000 years.

Typically standing between 13 to 22 cm tall and weighing between 1.5 to 3 kg, they are classified as a toy breed.

Chihuahuas come in various coat lengths, including short, medium, and long, and they can have a wide range of colors.

The small size of the Chihuahua has several advantages.

While they do shed a bit, especially during their annual or biannual shedding periods, their small size means it’s not a major issue.

They may bark occasionally, but their relatively quiet voices prevent them from being a nuisance.

Additionally, they require minimal exercise, making them well-suited for urban living or indoor life.

Like many small breeds, Chihuahuas need to be mindful of patellar luxation and joint issues.

However, they are known for their longevity, and with proper health care given their small size, they can lead a healthy life.

In fact, the current Guinness World Record holder for the oldest dog is a Chihuahua named Spike from the United States.

At Kim’s Pups, we define two key personality traits of this petite charm, the Chihuahua: courage and loyalty.

1. Courage

Chihuahuas possess a strong instinct to defend their territory and show a protective attitude toward their owners and family.

With their strong will and independent nature, they firmly assert themselves and can be quite stubborn in expressing their opinions or emotions.

For instance, when a large dog or a stranger approaches, a Chihuahua will give a strong warning and defend its space.

This behavior stems from their brave attitude, believing they can assert dominance over others.

While this independence and courage can sometimes come across as stubbornness, with consistent positive reinforcement training and proper socialization, you will find a Chihuahua to be one of the most lovable companions.

2. Loyalty

The deep loyalty of Chihuahuas is a significant advantage in training.

They possess excellent problem-solving skills, allowing them to make their own judgments and quickly understand and execute their owner's commands.

By incorporating creative and challenging training activities, Chihuahuas become more engaged and participate actively.

Additionally, Chihuahuas thrive on interaction with their owners.

Providing positive reinforcement—such as treats, praise, and affection—through these interactions enhances their motivation and maximizes training effectiveness.

We’ve summarized the charming appearance and boundless bravery of Chihuahuas.

While they are small companions that need our protection, Chihuahuas are always ready to watch over us.

By becoming part of a family with a Chihuahua, you'll experience a unique sense of deep protection and affection.
