TEACUP PUPPY GROOMING GUIDE: KEEP YOUR MINI PUP LOOKING PERFECT

TEACUP PUPPY GROOMING GUIDE: KEEP YOUR MINI PUP LOOKING PERFECT

Hello!

This is Kim's Pups, Korea's specialized teacup puppy breeder and boutique.

Why Grooming Matters for Teacup Puppies

Teacup puppies aren’t just adorable—they're delicate, too.

Regular grooming isn’t just about making your pup Instagram-ready.

It’s an essential part of keeping them healthy, hygienic, and happy.

Because of their tiny size and sensitive skin, teacup breeds require a gentle and tailored grooming routine that supports their wellbeing and enhances their natural charm.

Whether you’re a first-time owner or a seasoned teacup dog lover, this grooming guide will walk you through everything you need to know to keep your pint-sized companion looking and feeling their best.

Grooming Essentials for Teacup Breeds

Before you begin, make sure you have the right tools for the job:

  • Slicker Brush – Helps remove tangles and prevent matting

  • Teacup-sized Nail Clippers – For safe and easy trimming

  • Gentle Puppy Shampoo – Opt for hypoallergenic, tear-free formulas

  • Ear Cleaning Solution & Cotton Pads – For routine maintenance

Bonus tip: Invest in a soft microfiber towel and a low-heat pet dryer to avoid chilling your mini pup after baths!

Step-by-Step Grooming Routine

Step 1: Brushing (Daily or Every Other Day)

Start by gently brushing your teacup puppy to prevent tangles and matting.

This is especially important for breeds like Teacup Poodles, Maltipoos, and Bichons with curly or fluffy coats.

Step 2: Bathing (Every 2-3 Weeks)

Use lukewarm water and a mild, puppy-safe shampoo.

Avoid getting water into their ears. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry, then gently use a blow dryer on a cool or low setting.

Step 3: Nail Trimming (Every 2 Weeks)

Because teacup dogs are light and often walk on soft surfaces indoors, their nails don’t wear down naturally.

Trim just the tips using a teacup-sized nail clipper. Avoid the quick!

Step 4: Ear Cleaning (Weekly)

Use a ear cleaning solution with a soft cotton pad to gently wipe the outer ear.

Never insert anything deep into the ear canal!

Professional Grooming: When and Why

Even with regular at-home care, professional grooming is highly recommended every 4–6 weeks. Certified groomers can:

  • Give breed-specific cuts (like teddy bear cuts for Maltipoos)

  • Safely trim fur around the eyes and paw pads

  • Handle tricky areas like sanitary trims and ear hair removal

Kim’s Pups Grooming Recommendations by Breed

  • Teacup Maltipoo: Brush daily, teddy cut every 4–6 weeks

  • Teacup Poodle: Regular brushing, professional grooming every 4 weeks

  • Mini Bichon Frise: Daily brushing, round face cut monthly

  • Teacup Pomeranian: Use a slicker brush often, avoid shaving (can damage undercoat)

  • Coton de Tulear: Daily brushing due to cotton-like coat
