Everyone's Friend: Coton de Tulear
At Kim’s Pups, we have a mascot dog who welcomes our visitors.
Her name is ‘Gigi,’ a cute Coton de Tulear.
Just seeing her fluffy fur waving as she greets everyone naturally brings a smile to your face.
This is one of the key features of the Coton de Tulear that we’ll introduce today. 😊
As the name suggests, meaning ‘Cotton of Tulear Port’, the Coton de Tulear has fine and soft straight hair.
With no oiliness, dirt and foreign substances don’t stick easily, and they are known for being low-shedding, making them a hypoallergenic breed.
Once you start petting a Coton de Tulear, it’s hard to stop—it's just so irresistibly fluffy!
Coton de Tulears typically stand between 23 to 30 cm tall and weigh around 4 to 6 kg.
Their coat comes in three different patterns: white, white with black markings (parti), and a mix of gray and brown (tricolor).
The color of their fur may slightly change as they grow.
While they are small dogs, their sturdy build and rarity contribute to their reputation for being less prone to illness.
As the national dog of Madagascar, the Coton de Tulear was cherished by royalty and nobility, leading us to choose the keywords Sociability and Gentleness.
We believe these traits were key to their affection from the aristocracy.
1. Sociability
The Coton de Tulear is renowned for getting along well not only with people but also with other animals.
Their sociability is filled with a desire for connection and affection.
Coton de Tulears keenly observe and respond to those around them, which makes them easy to train.
By exposing them to various people, animals, and environments from an early age, you'll see their angelic friendliness truly shine.
They naturally adapt to the personalities and moods of others, making them comforting companions.
Our mascot ‘Gigi’ at Kim’s Pups also greets many guests and builds bonds through play and affection.
Thanks to their sociable and engaging nature, Coton de Tulears excel in activities that involve interaction with their owners, and they are loved by many.
This makes them especially recommended for families with other pets, such as dogs and cats, as well as households with children.
They shine in their relationships with kids, deepening mutual bonds.
2. Gentleness
The fact that Coton de Tulears can work as therapy dogs highlights their important trait of gentleness.
They possess a calm and optimistic demeanor, providing stability in various situations.
With low levels of competitiveness or aggression, they tend to bark less; when they do bark, it's mostly for warnings or communication.
This makes them a great breed for apartment living.
However, it’s essential to teach them necessary rules and boundaries, even if they have good basic temperament.
The good news is that they are quick learners!
At Kim’s Pups, many Coton de Tulear puppies consistently win the hearts of our guests, and every time we care for them, we are left enchanted.
When you gaze into their round, dark eyes, you can’t help but feel their comforting presence wash over you.
These lovable Coton de Tulears can be friends with children, various people, other animals, and even cats!
It’s easy to see why they captivate so many hearts.
